Twist: Man City now want "exciting" £66m star who Amorim is pushing to sign

Manchester City now want to make a move for a “really exciting” forward who is a major target for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, according to a report.

Man City considering new wingers

Amid the speculation building over Jack Grealish’s future at the Etihad Stadium, Man City have identified the need to sign a new winger this summer, and a number of potential targets have been picked out.

Jacob Ramsey, who has exclusively featured on the left wing for Aston Villa this season, has recently emerged as a target for the Sky Blues, but the Englishman will not come cheap, as his current employers value him at over £50m.

SC Braga’s Roger Fernandes is the most recent name to join the list, with City plotting a move for the 19-year-old, who is valued at £34m, however, there could be fierce competition for the youngster’s signature from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Fernandes is not the only winger Man City could be set to battle their rivals for, as a report from The Boot Room has revealed they now want to make a move for Sporting CP’s Trincao, who is a target for Amorim at Man United.

Pep Guardiola’s side are reported to be huge admirers of the winger, who is expected to leave Sporting at the end of the season following an impressive campaign in Portugal.

Sporting CP'sTrincaoin action with Arouca's Pedro Santos

Aside from Chelsea, the rest of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ have expressed an interest in the Sporting star, so there could be a huge battle for his signature this summer, and it has previously been revealed the Portuguese club could demand £66m.

In the same report, it is detailed that Amorim is personally pushing INEOS to sign his former player, but City could now be set to hijack the move.

"Really exciting" Trincao on fire in Portugal

Despite Amorim’s mid-season departure, Sporting are in a strong position to win the Liga Portugal for the second season on the spin, and Trincao has emerged as one of their key players.

The Portuguese winger has 23 goal contributions to his name in all competitions, having scored nine goals and registered 14 assists, and he previously received high praise from former Wolves technical director Scott Sellars upon signing for the club.

“He’s a really exciting player. It’s an area we’d like more competition, in terms of wide players. I think the fans are going to enjoy watching him play. He drives with the ball well and has good creativity.”

The only concern over the potential signing of Trincao will be the fact he didn’t set the world alight during his previous stint in the Premier League, picking up just two goals and one assist in the 2021-22 campaign, although he has clearly developed since then.

Social media erupts as USMNT stars Chris Richards, Matt Turner help Crystal Palace make FA Cup history

The American soccer community celebrated a milestone after the two Eagles stars became the second and third USMNT players to win the FA Cup

  • Turner and Richards spotted celebrating after big win
  • Media highlight defensive showing from Richards in Palace's win
  • FA Cup win is Crystal Palace's historic first major trophy
  • WHAT HAPPENED

Following Crystal Palace's unexpected 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, social media platforms immediately lit up with reactions celebrating the Eagles’ achievement. Not only that, a lot of focus was on Chris Richards, who delivered a standout defensive performance in the 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley. He wasn’t the only American to be celebrated as Matt Turner was a part of the proceedings as they became the third and fourth Americans to lift England's oldest and most prestigious cup competition.

“I think it’s dope,” Richards told Radio London when asked how he feels about winning the FA Cup as an American. “I believe Tim Howard and one other has won it so I think me and Matt Turner being a part of that very small group is an amazing feeling, and hopefully we’ll have a few Americans after us win it as well.

“Winning a title always makes a difference, but also being able to play in a European competition also keeps a few guys here. We’re trying not to look too much towards next season, but I think it gives us a better chance of keeping some pivotal guys,” Richards added when asked about next season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The FA Cup triumph marks a watershed moment for American players in English football, as Chris Richards and Matt Turner helped Crystal Palace lift the historic trophy. While the competition dates back to 1871, only a handful of Americans have ever won it—most notably goalkeeper Tim Howard with Manchester United in 2004 and Boston-born Julian Sturgis, who played for the Wanderers in the 1873 final. Until now, however, it had largely eluded modern-era American outfield players, making Richards’ role in Palace’s victory especially significant.

    WHAT’S NEXT?

With their place in American soccer history secured, Richards and Turner will likely enjoy the immediate aftermath of their victory before returning their focus to the Premier League. Morton not favoured by Slot in 2024-25 seasonMidfielder made just five appearances in all competitionsYoungster described the experience as 'tough' Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Out-of-favour Liverpool defensive midfielder Morton has shared his feelings on the 2024-25 season, which he spent at Anfield after consecutive loan spells at Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Hull City. Morton said it was the "toughest season mentally" for him under head coach Slot, although the youngster also admitted it "could have worked out a lot worse than it did" if he had been sent out on loan to develop further.

Morton made just five appearances in all competitions, none of which came in Liverpool's triumphant Premier League campaign. He underwent shoulder surgery back in February, which saw him miss the rest of the season. However, he made one Champions League appearance, one FA Cup start, and three League Cup appearances, of which he started twice, aggregating a total of just 261 minutes.

WHAT TYLER MORTON SAID

Speaking in an interview with the , Morton said: "I think it's been the toughest season mentally for me. Obviously, I've coped with it very well because I've got good people around me, but it's been very tough. I think I've coped with it as well as I possibly could. I think when you're not playing as a footballer who's as hungry as I am, it does hurt.

"It's tough, especially when, in my opinion, I wanted to go out and I wanted to play and I wanted to go on loan and get my game time. But having chatted with the manager, having to stay, it could have worked out a lot worse than it did. It probably could have worked out a lot better than it did.

"It's still been a good season. I've still developed and, as you said, I still feel really sharp and really ready to go."

Man Utd star was ahead of Amad, but then Ten Hag sold him for just £15m

da winzada777: Over the years, Manchester United have made some questionable decisions in the transfer market, many of which have led to the current cost-cutting operating in place at Old Trafford.

da fezbet: Huge money has been splashed by various managers over the years, with the majority of funds being wasted on players who simply aren’t at the level of the Premier League.

Casemiro cost a mammoth £70m back in the summer of 2022, earning £350k-per-week, the highest of any player within the current first-team squad.

The Brazilian pockets £18.2m per season in the North West, a bonkers fee, with the hierarchy needing to part ways with the 33-year-old this summer to prevent losing any further cash.

However, in a time when many deals have been unsuccessful, the club have made a few superb additions, including one player who’s had to bide his time with the Red Devils.

Amad Diallo’s stats at Man Utd

Back in January 2021, United completed a £36m deal to land winger Amad Diallo from Italian side Atalanta, with the fee a huge one given his tender age of just 18.

However, he would make an immediate impact, scoring in the Europa League against AC Milan, but would be sent on multiple loans to gain valuable first-team minutes to continue his development.

The Ivorian linked up with Rangers and Sunderland, notching 14 goals throughout 2022/23 whilst with the Black Cats, often being known for scoring a screamer or two.

Despite returning to the club last season, this year has been his breakthrough year, notching nine goals and seven assists across all competitions, most of which have come under Ruben Amorim.

However, despite his impressive form at Old Trafford to date, the club made a huge mistake offloading a player who was once ahead of the youngster in the pecking order – thriving away from Manchester as a result.

The United star who was ahead of Amad but was sold by Ten Hag

Despite Amad’s progress at United over the last few months, the club have certainly made some huge calls they could live to regret, selling players on the cheap who have gone on to star elsewhere.

Angel Gomes is a player who springs to mind, spending the majority of his youth years at Old Trafford, before departing on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 – now being a full England international – showcasing the mistake the club made in allowing him to leave.

However, they made a similar mistake, allowing Anthony Elanga to depart in the summer of 2023, leaving in a £15m deal to join Nottingham Forest, ending his seven-year spell in the North West.

The Swedish international made 55 appearances for the club’s first-team, often featuring in the senior ranks whilst Amad spent his respective spells out on loan.

Elanga, who has previously been labelled “phenomenal” by journalist Zach Lowy, even scored in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid during the 2021/22 season – showcasing his importance to the first-team.

Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

However, after just five starts in the Premier League throughout 2022/23, Erik ten Hag would offload him, a decision that would be a huge mistake given his form this season.

The 22-year-old has notched five goals and nine assists across all competitions this campaign, including a double against Ipswich Town in his last outing – netting the first double of his professional career.

He’s also managed to outperform Amad in numerous key areas throughout the year, showcasing the development he’s made under Nuno Espírito Santo at the City Ground.

His lack of action during his final year in Manchester ultimately led to Ten Hag offloading him, with the winger needing valuable minutes to continue his progression.

You can’t blame the Swede for wanting to move on to take his career to the next level, but now he’s done just that, many around the club must wish he had stayed with the Red Devils, offering Amorim another dimension within the club’s forward line.

Daryl Mitchell prepares to step out of his dad's shadow

He’s often asked more questions about his father, the former All Black John Mitchell, than about himself, but that is all set to change for New Zealand’s newbie allrounder

Deivarayan Muthu05-Feb-2019Ever wondered how cool it would be to rub shoulders with the All Blacks as well as the Black Caps? Ask New Zealand newbie Daryl Mitchell, the son of former All Black John Mitchell, who later coached the rugby side as well. On his first day of training with the New Zealand cricket team Daryl gushed: “It’s pretty cool; something you dream of as a little kid. It’s like a kid opening up your package on Christmas and getting into it. Stoked.”Watch India v NZ live

Followers in the United States can watch the first T20I live on ESPN+

It must have been equally cool getting to watch the All Blacks train with his father while growing up. Mitchell senior is now with England as their defensive coach, and his son was up early in Hamilton on Sunday to watch England topple pre-tournament favourites Ireland in the Six Nations Championship. Now, with Kane Williamson hinting that New Zealand will use the three-match T20I series against India to test their bench strength, Daryl, who had a stellar season in the Super Smash T20 tournament, is on the brink of an international debut.”I woke up and watched England get up for the win,” Daryl says. “Dad was pretty happy with that performance I’d say. I messaged him, he’s excited for me to get this opportunity, and I’m happy for him. Hopefully, they win the Six Nations and put a smile on his face. “So who is Daryl supporting at the Rugby World Cup – England or the All Blacks?”That’s a tough one. If England make the final against the All Blacks, but the All Blacks beat them, maybe. Let’s go with that.”After breaking into New Zealand’s squad, Daryl has had to deal with more questions about his high-profile father than about himself. While he concedes that spending time with the All Blacks has helped him become the professional he is now, he downplays the spotlight on him and his father.”He’s always just been my dad, he’s gone to work just like every other dad does,” Daryl says.”It just happened that he went to rugby training instead of to an office or something.”It was cool growing up, I got to watch the All Blacks and the Chiefs train and be around professional sport which probably helped me create who I am and how I go about things today. At the end of the day he’s just my dad and he’s still a pain in the ass sometimes and it’s pretty normal for me anyway.”Daryl Mitchell makes a valiant attempt to stop a boundary•BCCIIn addition to being well-equipped to deal with pressure, Daryl can bank on his excellent form, especially with the bat, in the Super Smash. In the absence of several New Zealand players and allrounder Anton Devcich, who is playing for the Sydney Thunder across the Tasman Sea, Daryl led the way for table-toppers Northern Knights. He is currently the second-highest run-getter in the competition with 318 runs in nine innings at a strike-rate of 140.08. But the most telling stat is that nobody has struck more sixes this season than his 19.Daryl is among the cleanest strikers in New Zealand domestic cricket and is particularly strong hitting in the V. He also has an Australian connection, having honed his skills at Scarborough Cricket Club in Western Australia. When he was 14, Daryl moved to Perth for about six years as his father secured a deal with Western Force. He then returned to Hamilton and made his debut for Northern Districts in 2011-12. Having started his career as batsman, he has developed into an allrounder who can pitch in with handy medium-pace. In this season’s Super Smash, after Chris Jordan joined Devcich at the Thunder, Daryl was the Knights’ go-to death bowler alongside their South African recruit Kyle Abbott. He impressed with his wide yorkers and cutters, and reckons he’s ready to do the job for New Zealand as well.”My role doesn’t change a lot with what I’m doing with ND at the moment,” Mitchell says. “I’m happy to do a job with the ball if Kane needs me. Obviously, batting is my main priority. If Kane throws me the ball, I’ll do whatever job that needs to be done.”Daryl’s also a fantastic fielder to boot. Remember his tag-team effort at the edge of the boundary with Tim Southee to dismiss Asif Raza in the Champions League T20 in 2014? It even made ESPN’s Sportcenter’s top 10 plays of the day. When Mitchell Santner was playing county cricket in 2016, he joked to Daryl, his Northern Districts team-mate, that his captain at Worcestershire, the English Daryl Mitchell, was the better Daryl Mitchell. He might revise that opinion, though, when the other one makes his international debut.

Postecoglou oversaw Tottenham's 4-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday, but the loss – their 22nd of the league season as they finished 17th – came after three consecutive days of celebration after winning the Europa League in Bilbao on Wednesday. In doing so, Postecoglou played his part in ending a 17-year trophy drought, and won Spurs' first European title in 41 years.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

There remains uncertainty, however, over whether the Australian will lead Spurs into the 2025-26 season. He was once again asked the question on the back of the Brighton defeat, and he bristled at the suggestion his future is in doubt. He drew attention to the club's trophy parade, in which over 200,000 Spurs fans lined the streets to get a glimpse of their heroes, with many of them chanting his name.

  • WHAT ANGE POSTECOGLOU SAID

After full-time, Postecoglou said:  "I will be honest, I have been finding it really weird talking about my future when we have done something unprecedented. I have had to answer the questions because no one else at the club is in the position to do so, I guess. But I can’t answer that question about me and my future. Like I said, part of me is thinking, ‘why am I even being asked that question?’ But it is what it is. I have got no doubt, though, that this could be a real defining moment for this club because wherever I have been I have made an impact where I have brought success to a club that hasn’t had it for a while. You just have to look at those clubs' trajectory even after I left, they are still competing for things. I really think this is a moment in time where this club could push on and be a real contender for honours on a yearly basis."

He added: “You know my gut feeling? My gut feeling is I feel right now that I’ve done something that no one believed I could. And I shouldn’t be sitting here talking about it [my future]. That’s my feeling, but it is what it is. Seeing those scenes Friday [at the club's trophy parade] and people have reached out and talked to me about how it has affected them, what has happened over the last couple of days. It’s a beautiful thing and I just want to enjoy that. To be honest, the rest of it? You know I don’t even want to be talking about it. I just think it is unnecessary. You’re right to ask the question but you’re asking the person who can’t give you that answer. And I guess, even for you guys [the media], you wouldn’t be asking it if there wasn’t a doubt, right? But I can’t answer it. There is nothing I can say that will answer that question. Other people can, so from my perspective, it doesn’t diminish the achievement."

    WHAT NEXT?

Reports suggest Spurs chairman Daniel Levy remains undecided over Postecoglou's future. It remains to be seen if he will return from his holidays to plan Spurs' summer business, or if he will have to begin searching for a new job. His CV, either way, has undoubtedly been bolstered by Spurs' glorious night in Bilbao.

Scouts sent: Man Utd plotting to sign "superb" £38m Martinez replacement

INEOS and Manchester United have now reportedly sent scouts to watch one defensive target as they begin to plot a summer swoop to secure his signature and ease their Lisandro Martinez injury woes.

Man Utd still targeting defensive additions

After Anthony Elanga ran the length of the pitch before firing home for Nottingham Forest in midweek, it should come as no surprise that Manchester United are still seeking defensive reinforcements. Now in April, the Red Devils are yet to win back-to-back games in the Premier League and their defensive issues in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system have played a large part in what has been a disastrous campaign.

It should not go without saying, however, that defeat at the City Ground was United’s first in five league games and Amorim echoed that positivity in his post-match press conference, telling reporters: “It’s more [of] the same since this season began. So I think if you look at the game we are improving the way we play football. We are creating more chances, we are dominating more games.

“But in the end, when you don’t win, you feel that and that is a good thing. So we know that this season is going to be like that, the momentum. So we continue to go to the next [game].”

The former Sporting Club boss may well look at his side’s recent run as something to build on before welcoming some key additions. Among those already linked with a summer switch to Manchester United includes Oumar Solet. The Udinese centre-back has impressed at times this season and now has a queue beginning to form for his signature, with United in that queue.

Oumar Solet for Udinese.

Solet isn’t the only defender that has caught the eye of those at Old Trafford, however, with another Serie A star emerging on INEOS’ reported radar.

Man Utd plotting move to sign "superb" Comuzzo

According to Caught Offside, INEOS and Manchester United are now plotting a summer swoop to sign Pietro Comuzzo from Fiorentina this summer and have already sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action. Valued at around €45m (£38m) by the Italian club, the deal should be within the Red Devils’ range even as their cost-cutting measures continue around the club.

Dubbed “superb” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, Comuzzo’s arrival would instantly see the injured Martinez replaced next season, before Amorim is handed the ultimate selection headache when the Argentine completes his eventual return.
