£120k-per-week Tottenham ace now seriously considering exit to La Liga side

An exit from Tottenham Hotspur is beckoning for one member of Ange Postecoglou’s side, as a Madrid-based side look to take advantage.

Players likely to leave Spurs in 2025

Postecoglou, chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange could decide to offload a few members of the Lilywhites squad when the turn of the year comes around – and there are a few interesting names in the frame to leave.

Club chiefs convinced their "extraordinary" player is set to join Tottenham

There is a theory growing within the side.

Timo Werner scored his first goal since March in Tottenham’s much-needed 2-1 win over Premier League champions Man City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, helping to guide Spurs into the quarter-finals, where they will face off against City’s cross-town rivals Manchester United in north London.

While this could go some way into eventually redeeming himself to the club’s hierarchy, depending on how he builds upon the strike against Pep Guardiola’s men, it is believed Werner is likely to leave Tottenham and head back to RB Leipzig at the end of his loan spell – as things stand.

It has also been reported this week that summer signing Archie Gray could head out on loan in January, with the former Leeds United star struggling to establish himself as a regular Premier League starter as he’s relegated to a bit-part, cup-playing role in the squad.

Levy and Lange managed to shift plenty of deadwood in the summer window, with Joe Rodon, Emerson Royal, Oliver Skipp, Giovani Lo Celso, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Japhet Tanganga all departing N17 permanently.

One player they didn’t manage to offload, though, was left-back and forgotten man Sergio Reguilon. On a reported £120,000-per-week, according to the Manchester Evening News, the Spaniard has been deemed surplus to requirements by Postecoglou – who gave the green light for Reguilon to spend last term on various loan spells at United and Brentford.

Reguilon was attracting interest from Turkey and other European clubs in the summer, but a move never materialised for the former Real Madrid starlet.

Reguilon seriously considering Tottenham exit to Getafe

As per Spanish media, it is now believed that Reguilon is seriously considering a Tottenham exit to Getafe – who could offer him the opportunity to make a return to Madrid by signing him as a free agent in 2025.

It is a golden opportunity for the La Liga side to snap him up at zero cost, with Reguilon’s contract set to expire in the summer and up for grabs at zero cost. The ex-Sevilla star could technically sign a pre-contract in January, so Getafe may have an opportunity to nip in ahead of other interested sides to secure his signature.

Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon.

Once tipped to shine under Antonio Conte, with pundit Noel Whelan calling him a “quality player” (Football Insider), things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Reguilon and the writing now appears on the wall for his departure next year.

Whilst the player has been spotted training with the senior squad, he is yet to make a single appearance in all competitions this season, and has been named in just one matchday squad so far – Spurs’ trip to Coventry City in the Carabao Cup.

New Zealand eventually lost the game by two wickets. In the second ODI on Thursday, New Zealand found themselves in a far stronger position when bowling first as they had Australia struggling at 54 for 5 and later 117 for 8. Everton struck gold offloading “relentless” ace who’s now worth £34m less

Everton have travelled through peaks and valleys over the course of their Premier League journey, but it’s clear that work needs to be done to escape from the current sloping morass.

Sean Dyche was brought in to restore some defensive security at Goodison Park and indeed succeeded in his efforts, steadying the ship and staving off the threat of relegation, but the Toffees relapsed at the start of the current campaign and, with The Friedkin Group completing a club takeover from Farhad Moshiri, some changes are going to be made.

Everton definitely need some more firepower up front, and what Dyche would give to have Richarlison, at the top of his game, to choose from.

Richarlison's Premier League career

Everton snapped Richarlison up for some £40m back in July 2018 after the Brazilian’s fine debut campaign in English football with Watford, who had brought the young forward over from his homeland.

He posted 53 goals and 13 assists over 152 outings for Everton, proving to be a reliable presence in front of goal and leading journalist Joe Strange to praise his “relentless” running and aggressiveness.

When Tottenham Hotspur came calling in 2022, the versatile forward jumped ship. Everton were stung by the loss of their talisman but for a fee totalling £60m, it was something of a no-brainer for Moshiri, who bit the Lilywhites’ hand off.

Especially since, as you can see from his season-by-season statistics in the Premier League, he’s since fallen by the wayside.

Richarlison's market value in 2024

Richarlison’s first year in the capital left absolutely everything to be desired, with his sole top-flight goal of the campaign coming against Liverpool in a dramatic 4-3 defeat at Anfield.

The Brazil international improved upon his woeful first term last year, enjoying a brilliant purple patch throughout the winter months that saw him plunder ten Premier League goals from just nine outings. Despite this, talkSPORT host Ally McCoist described him as a “very frustrating” forward to watch, for he never quite hits the heights that are within his ability.

According to Football Transfers’ player valuation model, Richarlison is now only worth £26m, which is probably about right given his injury problems throughout most of 2024. This is a significant drop from the sum that Spurs coughed up for his services, representing a £34m depreciation.

Richarlison played in both of Tottenham’s opening league matches of the season under Ange Postecoglou but has since been sidelined with an injury and only featured in the later stage of the matches anyway; compounding his struggles down N17, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson are both playing well, meaning he might struggle to get back into the starting 11.

There is no doubt that Everton would relish Richarlison’s qualities in their side right now, but equally, the money recouped from his sale was too good to turn down – and his travails since point toward nothing other than an excellent piece of business.

According to Napoli made an official bid for the 20-year-old winger, while Chelsea also inquired about a potential move. However, United opted to retain the promising star. Some staff members feared that a potential sale would have triggered an angry reaction from fans, with one source admitting that there was no way to justify Garnacho's departure "as a positive" move.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Selling a homegrown academy product would have counted as pure profit in the club’s financial records, making it beneficial under the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Despite this, United decided against cashing in on Garnacho, recognising his long-term potential and growing importance to Ruben Amorim's pursuit of excellence.

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

Earlier in the season, Garnacho, along with Marcus Rashford, was dropped from the squad for the Manchester derby in December. However, since then, he has regained his place in the starting XI, proving his value with a string of impressive performances.

Speaking about his importance, Amorim stated: "I want players like Kobbie [Mainoo] and Garnacho. The focus is that we have to improve our academy. And you have to bring more [through]. That is something that all the clubs in England have to take advantage of. The players that come from their academies. To play, to feel the shirt, but also to sell them. So our focus is to bring more [through]."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Despite United not actively seeking to sell Garnacho, reports suggest that the club would have considered offers in the region of £50 million ($62 million). With eight goals and six assists this season, he has played a crucial role for the Red Devils. His impact off the bench was evident in the Europa League clash against FCSB when he set up Mainoo to score and he had previously assisted Amad Diallo against Liverpool in the Premier League.

Ishant a chance to play at The Oval

After being ruled out of the last two Tests with a leg injury, India’s premier seamer could return in place of Pankaj Singh, while Gautam Gambhir looks set to keep the opening slot at The Oval

Sidharth Monga at The Oval13-Aug-2014MS Dhoni’s joke after losing at Old Trafford that India got two extra days off might not have gone down well with some fans, but the players have managed to fit in a lot of action in the time off. Some have seen Manchester United play, some Chelsea, and there has also been a long paintball event. When they took the field two days before the Test, Dhoni was missing. In his absence, Duncan Fletcher and Virat Kohli addressed the huddle, and India even played a different sport to warm up. Dhoni has always been dead set on football, but on Thursday, they played a version of handball with white cricket balls.Dhoni’s absence raised a few doubts about his availability for the final Test – he has been taking blows on the body through the series – but it turned out he took leave from training to go for a shooting session at a firing range. That Naman Ojha hardly got any batting practice means Dhoni should be fit to play.Another person whose fitness India can be optimistic about is Ishant Sharma. The seamer missed two Tests to a “leg injury”, which the Indian management will not elaborate on, but from towards the end of the Old Trafford Test, Ishant has been gradually increasing his bowling load. Tuesday was a day off for the team, but on Wednesday Ishant came to The Oval and bowled at full pelt for about half an hour, and how he wakes up after this bowling load might decide whether he will play on Friday. Ishant was Man of the Match in India’s win at Lord’s, and the bowling has not quite looked the same after his injury. If he plays, he should replace Pankaj Singh.Gautam Gambhir, who struggled on his comeback at Old Trafford, seems set to get another chance. The batsman spent a long time in the nets, working hard with Trevor Penney who gave him throw-downs. The two seemed to be discussing the outside edge, and how to avoid it. India are yet to enjoy a 50-run opening stand in eight Tests since they left home for South Africa late last year, but they are not too keen to change the combination again.Shikhar Dhawan, the opener who was dropped for Gambhir, and Rohit Sharma, who has played only in Southampton, hardly got a bat in the nets. This could point to India continuing with five specialist batsmen followed by Dhoni and allrounders. One of the allrounders could change, though. In an interesting twist, India gave Stuart Binny a long hit at the start of the training session, alongside R Ashwin, which could mean a swap with Ravindra Jadeja, but the session was not as organised as India’s earlier ones.Binny for Jadeja might just be an option India want to keep open. Jadeja and the opening slot are two big concerns for India. Even though Jadeja played a big part in India’s win at Lord’s, his batting is low percentage, and his bowling mostly one-dimensional. He was not present for the slip-catching practice at the end of the session. Only M Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane took catches there. India’s fans will hope that just two slips is not a sign of things to come.

Their clash with the Toffees is another must-win game for West Ham, amid calls for Lopetegui to be shown the door. Critics have claimed that West Ham should sack Lopetegui already and that his appointment was simply the wrong choice by David Sullivan.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve heard reports that there are a fair few people that are not convinced about Lopetegui,” said journalist Dean Jones on the Rank FC Ultras podcast last month.

“Honestly, I’d probably sack him (Lopetegui). I think they’ve got it wrong. I don’t think this is the right man for them. I think it’s a waste of time. I’d sack him.”

How the West Ham board are now really feeling about Lopetegui

There are suggestions that West Ham have sounded out ex-FC Porto boss Sergio Conceicao as an alternative, while former backroom member Edin Terzic is also a potential replacement for Lopetegui.

Amid these claims, a report by Football Insider has shared just how the West Ham board are now feeling about Lopetegui after a lacklustre start to the campaign.

It is believed that Hammers chiefs are growing very impatient, and there is now a feeling that they could relieve Lopetegui of his duties at any moment, as the situation becomes quite volatile.

Pressure is believed to be mounting even further, and as we’ve seen with Erik ten Hag recently, no manager is safe in this division if results continue to take a downward trajectory and players fail to perform.

The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas is another figure who thinks Lopetegui’s time should be up, urging technical director Tim Steidten to cut his losses on the tactician.

“I don’t think Lopetegui is capable of turning this around,” wrote Thomas on X.

“He was the wrong appointment. This team has regressed, has no identity, the players look despondent and the formation/tactics are questionable.

“Lopetegui wants fans to reserve judgement until May, but there is little encouragement that things will improve. He keeps persisting with out of form Rodriguez, Summerville brought off early again and another game with a different formation. I could go on all day.”

Ange already has "the next Christian Eriksen" in exciting Spurs ace

Tottenham Hotspur have been blessed with some incredible talents over the last decade or so.

In the early 2010s, fans were treated to arguably one of the best wingers the Premier League has ever seen in Gareth Bale, and then, just a few years later, witnessed the incredible partnership of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min define another era in the club’s storied history.

However, one player who perhaps didn’t get the appreciation he deserved from non-Spurs fans when he was plying his trade in N17 was midfield maestro Christian Eriksen.

gabriel-misehouy-christian-eriksen-tottenham-opinion

The Danish international was an exceptional player for the North Londoners, and while he has never truly been replaced, Ange Postecoglou may now finally have the player destined to do just that.

Eriksen's Spurs career

In the aftermath of Bale’s record-breaking sale to Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, Tottenham were flush with cash, and while the majority of the ‘magnificent seven’ signed with that cash turned out to be a total waste of money, Eriksen was not.

In his first campaign with the North Londoners following his £11.5m move, the Middlefart-born wizard already looked like one of the best attacking midfielders in the country.

In just 36 appearances across all competitions, he racked up a brilliant haul of ten goals and 11 assists, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.74 games.

This instant adaptation to English football wasn’t a false dawn either, as the 32-year-old would continue to be a sensational player for the Lilywhites across the next five and a half seasons, registering a final haul of 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 games for the club, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.94 games.

Moreover, this incredible haul was evidence that while the Danish international was an exceptional creator, he was also more than adept at scoring goals, so when he departed for Inter Milan in January 2020 for just £16.9m, it was a significant hit to the team.

The club have tried to find his successor in the years since and arguably came closest with James Maddison, but so far, they’ve been unable to find someone as unbelievably talented and consistent as the Dane.

However, that may no longer be the case, as Postecoglou has an up-and-coming young talent in his squad this year, a talent who’s already been dubbed the next Eriksen by those in the know.

christian-eriksen-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-postecoglou-pochettino-bale-james-maddison

Postecoglou's talent who could be the new Eriksen

Let’s get straight to the point, as while the club now has a number of promising young talents on their books, the player in question is 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall, whom former Spurs scout Bryan King proclaimed “could be the next Christian Eriksen.”

Now, King spent 28 years as a first-team scout, six of which at Tottenham, and on top of focusing on Scandinavian football, he also spent over a decade managing in Norway and Sweden, so to call him an expert on the region’s football would be an understatement.

When comparing the young Swede to the now incredibly experienced Dane, King argued that it was the latter’s quality as a “good passer” and ability to “finish from distance” that made him most similar to the latter, and based on his performances last season, it’s not hard to see what he means.

For example, in 19 games for Swedish side Djurgården, the teenager managed to score six goals and provide five assists for good measure, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.72 games and showing he too can be both a scorer of goals as well as a creator.

Moreover, despite still being so young, the “uber-complete” midfielder, as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, has already won four caps for the Swedish national team, and considering the calibre of the players currently in the squad, that’s no small feat.

Ultimately, it is probably too early to know whether Spurs genuinely have found their new Eriksen, but based on his promising displays last season and the opinion of a vastly experienced expert in King, the signs are undeniably positive.
