Deal close: Rangers target who plays like Neymar chooses Ibrox

Glasgow Rangers are leading the race to sign a young talent who has even been compared to Brazil superstar Neymar, with the player thought to have chosen a move to Ibrox despite a long list of suitors.

Martin expects more departures as Rangers ramp up business

Robin Propper’s time as a Gers player has reached its conclusion, with the centre-back returning to former club FC Twente after struggling to consistently impress at Ibrox.

Speaking over the weekend, manager Russell Martin admitted that there is interest in various other Rangers players, too, with plenty of outgoing business expected this summer.

While much focus is on the players who could leave Rangers in the coming weeks, new signings are also essential, and it looks as though the Scottish Premiership giants are in pole position to snap up a high level youngster.

Rangers set to win race for Mikey Moore

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, the Gers have won the race to sign Tottenham sensation Mikey Moore on loan despite competition from the English Championship.

Moore is such a gifted player with a big future in the game, so the idea of him spending the 2025/26 season at Rangers is a mouthwatering prospect.

Rangers: "Fearless" gem wants to move to Ibrox with Gers in negotiations

The 17-year-old winger has an incredible 32 goal contributions (19 goals and 13 assists) in just 24 appearances for Spurs’ under-18 side, also netting once for the senior side to date and being lauded as similar to Neymar by teammate James Maddison.

“From minute 45 to 65 I thought we had Neymar on the left wing. He was brilliant. Just demanding the ball and fearless. [He has] that young, fearless mentality and you never want to take that away from him. He’s a young kid, a brilliant lad, a lovely boy. He takes in information, and he’s got bags of ability, so I’ll be there as an older player, hopefully with some wise words to help along the way.”

Martin knows that extra firepower is needed if his Rangers side are to have a chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title next season, and in Moore they would be signing an extremely talented youngster with the potential to excel on loan, no doubt wanting to prove his worth to Spurs.

ILT20 cut team salary caps by 20% after avoiding direct clash with SA20

The wage cap, which was US$2.5 million in the first three editions of the league, has been trimmed to US$2 million

Dubai Capitals are the defending ILT20 champions•ILT20

The UAE’s ILT20 has cut team salary caps by 20% after avoiding a direct clash with South Africa’s SA20 in the 2025-26 season. Each team will be permitted to spend up to US$2 million on player salaries this season, after a wage cap of US$2.5 million in the first three editions of the league.ESPNcricinfo has learned that there is a belief among the six franchises that they have overspent on wages, and that many top players will still play in the league for slightly lower salaries thanks to a clearer window this year. The ILT20 will shift forward this season, running from December 2 until January 4, and will only briefly clash with the SA20. The two leagues have competed directly against one another for talent in their first three seasons, and ILT20 chief executive David White said a key reason to move is to enable the league to “access a bigger pool of players”.Related

The league is also expected to move to an auction model for the 2025-26 season, after relying on direct signings in its first three years. ESPNcricinfo has learned that an auction is due to take place in September, with franchises in the process of working through their retentions in the meantime. Teams will still be permitted to spend an additional US$250,000 on additional ‘wildcard’ signings. The ILT20’s business model relies heavily on a long-term TV deal with Zee TV, the Indian broadcaster, and the league has been criticised for its low minimum requirement of only two local UAE players in each playing XI. Dubai Capitals are the defending champions, after Gulf Giants (2023) and MI Emirates (2024) won the first two titles. The ILT20’s decision to trim the wage cap could provide an indirect boost to the Big Bash League [BBL] ahead of its upcoming draft. The BBL has struggled to retain its leading overseas players in recent years, who have either left for the UAE before the knockout stages or skipped the league altogether, but will hope that the ILT20’s cost-cutting plays in its favour.

West Indies' last-wicket heroics

Stats highlights from the second ODI in Visakhapatnam

Madhusudhan Ramakrishnan02-Dec-2011

  • Rampaul’s 86 is the highest score by a No.10 batsman, going past Mohammad Amir’s 73 against New Zealand in 2010. During his innings, Rampaul hit six sixes, the most by a No.10 batsman in an ODI.
  • The 99-run stand between Rampaul and Roach is the third-highest last-wicket stand in ODIs. It is also the second-highest tenth-wicket stand in which the two batsmen involved were the No.10 and No.11. Of the top five tenth-wicket partnerships, West Indies have been involved in three, while Pakistan have been involved in the other two.
  • The last-wicket stand lasted 84 balls. This is fourth-highest on the list of most deliveries faced by a tenth-wicket pair in ODIs. The highest is 105 balls, during the 62-run stand between Ajay Jadeja and Javagal Srinath in Sharjah in 2000. The partnership run-rate of 7.07 is also the second-highest for West Indies for all fifty-plus tenth-wicket stands.
  • Virat Kohli scored his eighth century in ODIs and his second in two matches in Visakhapatnam. In the ODI against Australia last year, he has scored 118 to lead India’s successful chase of 290. Kohli has now scored five centuries and averages 56.77 in chases.
  • R Ashwin went for 74 runs off his ten overs. This is the third-highest number of runs conceded by an India bowler in a completed spell in an ODI against West Indies, after S Sreesanth and Ajit Agarkar, who conceded 79 and 75 runs respectively in Nagpur in 2007. Ashwin, in conceding six sixes, equalled Yuvraj Singh, who also conceded six sixes at The Oval in 2007. Only Dwayne Leverock of Bermuda has conceded more sixes in an innings (eight against India in 2007).
  • The 163-run stand between Kohli and Rohit Sharma is the second-highest for the fourth wicket for India against West Indies. The highest is 165 between Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh in Colombo, in 2005.
  • Rohit scored his fifth half-century of the year against West Indies. He has scored 434 runs in ten innings against West Indies at an average of 72.33. Rohit’s 90 is his third-highest score in ODIs after his 114 and 101 against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka respectively.
  • The target of 270 is the second-highest achieved by India in ODIs against West Indies, after the 325 in Ahmedabad in 2002. The win is also India’s 11th consecutive win in home ODIs. They were last defeated at home during the World Cup game against South Africa in Nagpur.
  • Lendl Simmons’ 78 is his third-highest score in ODIs and his fourth score in the seventies. He has been dismissed twice in the seventies this year.

Dhoni plays it cool

Press conferences with MS Dhoni are inevitably a cat-and-mouse game, as the India captain rarely gives anything away

Sidharth Monga24-Dec-2011MS Dhoni is a headline-writer’s nightmare. He refuses to get drawn into any pre-series big talk, post-win boasting, or discussions about pressure. It’s two days before the Boxing Day Test, the biggest event on Australia’s cricket calendar, and you could sum up the state of mind he wants to project in one quote: “What’s important is to live in the moment. You have to try to win more sessions than the opposition.”There have been comments from the opposition, players both current and retired, but he says, “We shall stick to what we need to do.” Try asking if there is an extra significance to this series, coming as it does after the England debacle and in all likelihood being India’s last away Tests for two years, and he says, “There is no point in taking extra pressure. We look to do well in every game, be it home or away. We look to keep it simple. Do small things well. We didn’t do well in England of course but it’s not about past or future. It’s about the present.”Dhoni informs you that everyone is fit and available for selection, but immediately says there are two days to go and two days is a long time. Lest the headline uses the word “confident”. Even the foreign journalists have stopped asking him about DRS, knowing they are not going to get anything new. Somebody asks him if the “favourites” tag means extra pressure, and he retorts, “Even when we were underdogs, you wanted us to be under pressure”Dhoni is then asked about whether Ishant Sharma’s decision to delay the surgery on his ankle was a wise move. “That depends on the individual and what the physio tells him regarding that,” he says. Somebody else has spotted Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman making a few technical changes, and Dhoni’s response to that is: “Very difficult for me to answer, because technically I am not very sound. Something that the coach does. One of these days I’ll ask Duncan [Fletcher] to come for a press conference.”However, after about 15 minutes of this cat-and-mouse – and it’s not really a criticism because he was not made captain to help sell papers – he does open up a bit, when asked about his own batting. Obviously in Tests, Dhoni the batsman is not the presence Dhoni the batsman is in shorter formats. He has played important Test hands here and there, has scored quick hundreds when setting up a declaration, averages a respectable 38, but that defining big knock has eluded him. Last year he was on the verge of playing one such, trying to help India save the Centurion Test along with Sachin Tendulkar. During their partnership, batting seemed easy, and swiftly India threatened to erase the deficit. Just before a thunderstorm arrived, though, Dhoni got a corker from Dale Steyn, the kind of ball that, produced at the right time, is the difference between a draw and a win. It was 2010, but Dhoni mentioned the South Africa tour when talking of the year of the “80s”.”I don’t think much about it,” Dhoni said. “Of course as I said I am not technically very sound. At times for me it is about adapting to the conditions. Batting at No. 7, especially if you see this year, it hasn’t been a brilliant year for me individually. I see this year as a year where I have scored a lot of these 80s. At times I have been short of partners, like for example, in South Africa I was batting decently, and [during] a couple of innings, all of a sudden I didn’t have batsmen batting with me.”[In these situations] You look to score as many runs as possible, and at times you get out. At the end of the day it looks like you haven’t scored runs. Of course I would like to improve as an individual.”And while walking off, he jokes it was a very long press conference.

Rain threat diminishes in Chennai ahead of IPL 2024 final

There was a sharp spell of rain on the eve of the final that led to fears of the match being affected

ESPNcricinfo staff26-May-2024Chennai experienced a cloudy but rain-free morning in the lead-up to Sunday’s IPL 2024 final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. A sharp spell of rain, lasting over an hour, disrupted KKR’s training session on Saturday evening, leading to fears of the final being affected. As of 1pm on Sunday afternoon, though, the rain threat seemed to have diminished, with only a 4% chance of precipitation according to Accuweather. In case the weather prevents the final being completed on Sunday, there is a provision for a reserve day. The reserve day will only kick in if the match officials are not able to complete the game on Sunday itself – the team batting second will need to face at least five overs for a decisive result to be achieved. The 2023 final in Ahmedabad went into the reserve day, where further delays pushed the finish of the match – Chennai Super Kings chased down a revised target of 171 in 15 overs in a last-ball finish against Gujarat Titans – to 1:35am on what was effectively day three. The pitch and weather have been topics of keen interest in the lead-up to the IPL 2024 final. On Friday, SRH defeated Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2, on a black-soil pitch that began to take appreciable turn during the second innings. Both teams had anticipated dew, which may have given the chasing team an advantage, but it did not play a major role on the night. The pitch for the final is a red-soil strip that was earlier used for CSK’s match against Punjab Kings on May 1. Spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar were PBKS’s match-winners on the day, picking up a combined 4 for 33 in their eight overs to help restrict CSK to 162. PBKS chased down their target with 13 balls to spare.

Reyna will be out for "a few weeks"Returned from USMNT duty before pair of friendliesPlayed just 10 minutes for Dortmund this seasonWHAT HAPPENED?

Gio Reyna is once again facing time away from the pitch. The attacking midfielder, who has struggled for fitness for nearly two years, has suffered yet another setback, Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin revealed. He left the USMNT camp at the end of last week, and didn't feature in either of the U.S.'s friendlies against Canada and New Zealand.

The USMNT struggled without him, losing to Les Rouges before stumbling to a 1-1 draw with the All Whites.

Reyna hasn't managed to stay fit for more than a year. The USMNT regular played just 280 minutes for Dortmund in the first half of the 2023-24 season, and managed 235 after an ill-advised January loan move to Nottingham Forest. He finished the season with just one goal contribution.

Sahin spoke on Reyna's injury woes in a press conference: "Gio Reyna will be out; he has picked up an injury with the national team," Sahin said. "He came straight back [from the national team] and I found him extremely sad; unfortunately, it will take a few weeks. And then I hope that he can continue on this good path afterwards."

While this occasion honoured the former Dortmund players, many eyes are on what Klopp will do next after stepping down as Liverpool boss back in May. The German reportedly turned down the chance to manage the United States men's national team and ruled out managing England, too. Dyche must ditch Everton man who’s now worth less than Tarkowski

da cassino: Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, Everton boss Sean Dyche has a huge summer ahead of him, that could potentially impact the club’s ever-present Premier League status.

da bet sport: Although the Toffees produced a phenomenal end to the season which saw them win four of their remaining six matches, the squad could be ripped apart this summer as a result of the looming PSR problems.

The club will have to part ways with at least one big-money player, just to have a fighting chance of avoiding any further punishments, with Jarrad Branthwaite the most likely, having been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

It will undoubtedly be a huge blow for Everton should he depart Goodison Park, with the 21-year-old excelling, so much so that he’s earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

However, the club also currently have a lot of contracted players who are past the level required of England’s top flight, with Dyche needing to brutally part ways with one player to help raise funds.

Michael Keane’s career at Everton

During the summer of 2017, Everton forked out a huge £30m for defender Michael Keane – in the hopes he could be a spare head in the club’s European ambitions.

nico-elvedi-michael-keane-everton-transfer-premier-league

Keane impressed in his first season at Goodison, starting 30 times over the course of the campaign and helping the Toffees secure an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

The defender remained a crucial part of the Toffees' backline for the 2018/2019 campaign, with Keane making 33 appearances in the top flight and looking good value for his hefty price tag.

However, he would drop down the pecking order at Goodison following the arrival of James Tarkowski, with his game time dramatically decreasing – Keane only featuring 12 times for a total of just 983 minutes in the Premier League.

Despite his decline the season prior, the 2023/24 campaign has been a new low for the 31-year-old, achieving a tally of just nine starts – with Dyche desperately needing to bin the centre-back this summer.

Michael Keane's market value in 2024

Nearly seven years on from his move to Merseyside, he’s endured a huge drop from the £30m the club forked out for him, with Keane now valued at a measly £1.8m, as per Football Transfers.

Keane, who is "always struggling" according to talkSPORT's Perry Groves, has suffered a drop of over £28m – an astronomical amount – with Tarkowski, his replacement, now worth a staggering £17.6m, less than two years after his free transfer to the club.

The one-time Manchester United man only has 12 months left on his current contract at Goodison, with this summer potentially their last opportunity to sell him before losing him for absolutely nothing.

With Keane – who was reportedly told he could leave in January – on a reported £80k-per-week, as per Capology, the club desperately needs to cut him loose in the coming months, if they are to prevent any big-name departures from Dyche’s side.

CPL 2020: Evin Lewis 89 leads St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to first win

His innings of nine sixes and two fours was CPL 2020’s highest individual score

The Report by Sreshth Shah25-Aug-2020Evin Lewis hit CPL 2020’s highest individual score and then Ben Dunk struck a crucial 11-ball 22 to seal St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ first win of the season, ending a three-game losing streak, by defeating Barbados Tridents by six wickets in a battle between the two sides stranded at the bottom of the points table. It was a tricky chase despite Patriots having plenty of wickets entering the death overs, and that was because of the sluggish batting from Denesh Ramdin, who made a 32-ball 20. But that eventually did not hurt the Patriots as Lewis struck 89 in 60 deliveries to ensure Patriots stayed in touching distance of the required run-rate and then Dunk’s cameo took them over the line.Patriots keep Tridents’ top order quietOpting to bowl, Rayad Emrit’s rotation of his bowlers didn’t allow the Tridents batsmen to settle early on. Sohail Tanvir’s cutters and Alzarri Joseph’s accurate line stopped openers Johnson Charles and Shai Hope to get on top of the bowlers, and then Emrit’s slower balls stifled the Tridents, with their scoring ate of 6.50 in the Powerplay.Despite a ten-run seventh over that looked to break the shackles, Charles fell in the eighth for a run-a-ball 24 as he tried to slog offspinner Jon-Russ Jaggesar’s carrom ball. Hope struggled with his timing too, and Jaggesar added to his wicket tally on the last ball of the tenth over when his sweep found deep midwicket, out for a 30-ball 29.No. 3 Kyle Mayers looked to attack thereafter, but fell for 22 in the 13th over – caught behind off Tanvir – and then Tridents fell into a deeper hole when No. 4 Corey Anderson’s straight drive three balls later caught Tanvir’s fingertips and crashed into the non-striker’s stumps with Jason Holder outside his crease. At the end of 13 overs, Tridents were 81 for 4 and struggling.Anderson and Nurse turn on the screwsWith a deep batting line-up, Tridents had to up their scoring rate and they did when Anderson and No. 6 Ashley Nurse got together. At first, it was Anderson who began attacking, unafraid to take legspiner Imran Khan on, but when Tanvir returned for his second spell, neither batsman spared him as the 17th over went for 21, and Tridents sneaked past 120.The 18th over from Joseph looked promising for the Tridents again as Nurse crunched a six over long off to start the over, but he fell two balls later, ending a 29-ball stand that earned the Tridents 56 runs. Anderson was out for 31 next over, but they did enough to ensure Tridents set Patriots 152 to win.Lewis, Dunk save Ramdin the blushesWith Chris Lynn failing in his fourth straight game – trapped lbw by Rashid Khan – the responsibility of ensuring Patriots don’t lose their fourth-straight game fell on Lewis.Finding his team on 41 for 2, he combined with No. 4 Ramdin to anchor the innings through the middle overs. With Ramdin struggling to rotate the strike, Lewis took the onus of hitting the boundaries, including a hat-trick of sixes off Hayden Walsh Jr in the ninth over to reach his first fifty of CPL 2020.Despite a few tidy overs from Rashid and debutant Nyeem Young after the tenth over, Lewis’ aggression could not be controlled, shellacking enough boundaries to bring the equation down to 36 off 24, then 31 off 18 and then 22 off 12, but he eventually ran out of gas in the 19th over, out for a 60-ball 89 trying to clear Kyle Mayers over long off. With the equation now reading 20 off nine balls, and two new batsmen in the middle, it looked like Tridents were going to make the league double over Patriots. But then Ben Dunk came to the party, first flicking a full and wide ball over short third man to close the 19th over out and then hit two sixes off the inexperienced Young in the 20th to seal a six-wicket win, much to the relief of Ramdin, who was struggling to get going in the middle.
