"Unbelievable" – Sky Sports man loves what he’s seeing from Idah at Celtic

Celtic have been told that they have signed a player with "real good qualities" this January as they look to bolster their chances of more silverware under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic locked in another Old Firm battle

The Glasgow giants are trying to hold off a resurgent Rangers in a bid to win a 54th Scottish Premiership title this campaign, and looked to the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their ranks.

Winger Nicolas Kuhn was signed from Austrian giants Rapid Vienna, while Adam Idah also arrived in a late loan move from Championship side Norwich City, with the pair expected to add more attacking verve to Brendan Rodgers' side.

As things stand, his Celtic sit top of the SPL, three points clear of bitter rivals Rangers in a two-horse race for supremacy, but Rangers have a game in hand with which they could draw level, and should they win by three goals they would leapfrog Rodgers and co.

The new signings could ultimately prove the difference though.

Idah to prove excellent business

Celtic fans were treated to their first sighting of Idah in their 1-1 draw with struggling Aberdeen, with the Norwich academy graduate grabbing an assist to level the scoreline and keep the hoops three points clear atop the Scottish Premiership. He then opened his account for the club in their next game, scoring twice in a 2-1 win at Hibernian.

Norwich forward Adam Idah.

And according to ex-Norwich striker Robert Earnshaw, Brendan Rodgers has got a good one in Idah, with the Ex-canary waxing lyrical about the move.

Earnshaw appeared 45 times for Norwich in the early 2000s, scoring on 27 occasions, and now finds himself a part of the Sky Sports team. As a man who knows a thing or two about finding the back of the net, he was keen on the move for both Celtic and for Idah.

"I like him. I like him as a player. I think he's good. He shows some real good qualities, Earnshaw told LiveScore.

"I think going to Celtic sometimes can just open you up and be like, ‘yeah, this is a great platform’, and your confidence is then sky-high. Maybe he needs something like that. I think it's an unbelievable move.

"I was close years and years ago to going to Celtic. They were interested, but it never came through. But I think him going to Celtic is a huge move. I mean, you're talking about one of the most famous clubs in the world. My friend Joe Ledley was there for years and years, and I know how much he enjoyed it. But it's a good football club for him”, Earnshaw added.

The 22-year-old is only at Celtic Park on a temporary basis as things stand, with Norwich refusing to add an option to buy into the deal despite Rodgers being keen.

Despite this, Idah will be hoping that the move allows him to iron out the inconsistencies that continue to plague his game, with his debut coming all the way back in the 2019/20 season for the Canaries but injuries and form meaning that he has never netted more than 3 league goals in a single campaign before this season, with his tally of 6 to date by far and away the best return of his career. Should he do so, he may be able to convince the Bhoys to hold onto him permanently come the summer.

After starring at youth level (he scored 12 times in 19 Premier League 2 appearances in 2018/19), the step to senior football has been tough, but if his start at Celtic is anything to go by he could finally be beginning to find his feet in the big leagues.

Chelsea offered chance to sign "unstoppable" European star to replace Broja

In a rarity for Chelsea these days, the Blues have endured a silent transfer window on the incoming front, with Mauricio Pochettino so far forced to stick with what he's already got. The same can more or less be said when it comes to departures, given that Ian Maatsen and David Datro Fofana are the only players to have left Stamford Bridge in the transfer window this month, neither of whom had a big impact on the squad this term.

With a matter of hours remaining before the deadline, however, things could yet change on both fronts, with the Blues reportedly offered to sign a Bundesliga forward who could replace and even become an upgrade on Armando Broja.

Chelsea make Broja U-turn

Despite seemingly being set on their decision to keep hold of Broja unless someone paid a permanent fee, fresh reports suggest that Chelsea have agreed a loan deal for their young forward with Fulham in a late move in the winter window. If Broja does leave, then the London giants will be left potentially scrambling for a replacement in the final hours of the window. And that's when they could turn to the Bundesliga.

According to Simon Phillips' Substack, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Donyell Malen by his agent before the end of the transfer window. Phillips confirmed the news, saying: “I’ve been told tonight that Donyell Malen from Dortmund has been offered to Chelsea by his agent."

The Dortmund star could even be an upgrade on Broja, but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be in a position to pursue such a deal in the last few hours of the window. The Blues' need for attacking reinforcements remains a prominent problem for Pochettino, however, and Malen could more than play his part in that issue finally reaching a resolution.

"Unstoppable" Malen is better than Broja

If Broja does complete his move away from Chelsea before the end of the window, then they'd be wise to turn to Malen. Not only would the Dutchman replace the young forward, but he'd also be an instant upgrade, as Malen's stats show.

A player who showed great potential in the early stages of his career, Malen received praise from Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who called the forward "unstoppable".

The fact that the Dutchman has reportedly been offered to Chelsea by his agent suggests that a move could be on the cards in the near future, whether that be today or in the summer transfer window. So, Malen is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Arsenal could sign "insane" £51m star over Jorrel Hato

Football is a famously fickle game, something that was demonstrated once again over the weekend as, after talks of crisis for the last fortnight, Arsenal responded with an emphatic 5-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The scoreline might slightly flatter the Gunners, but Mikel Arteta's side have well and truly barged their way back into the Premier League title race.

While things look to be back on track on the pitch, the transfer rumours have been flying in, and Ajax's young star, Jorrel Hato, is a name that is consistently linked to the Gunners.

Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.

However, while the young Dutchman looks to be an exciting prospect, Edu and Co would be much better served signing another defensive star touted for a move to N5 this month.

Arsenal look to Lisbon for defensive targets

According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, Arsenal are still 'interested' in Sporting CP's defensive star Goncalo Inacio.

The report has revealed that alongside the Gunners, Chelsea, Machester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Newcastle United have also all maintained their interest in the talented centre-back, with a number of those sides – including the north Londoners – having sent scouts to watch him play on several occasions now.

ousmane-diomande-goncalo-inacio-liverpool-opinion

This interest from some of Europe's most prominent and wealthiest teams is far from ideal for Arsenal, but the potential fee required to sign the 22-year-old isn't.

Record claim that the Sporting man has a release clause of €60m – about £51m – inserted into his contract, and while that is still a lot of money, it isn't egregious for one of the continent's most sought-after young defenders, especially when compared to the €100m (£86m) plus that journalist Suleyman Öztürk expects Hato to be sold for.

How Inacio compares to Hato

The first thing to say is that based on their performances this season and the hype that they are both generating Arsenal would do well to sign either Inacio or Hato, as it would be a pretty good bet to assume that the pair will be playing at the top level for quite some time.

Arsenal could sign £86m-rated "world-class" ace to be their own Salah

The 28-year-old could rival Bukayo Saka for a starting role.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Jan 22, 2024

However, there are a few reasons why a move for the "simply amazing" Sporting man, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, ahead of the Dutchman just makes sense.

The first is the aforementioned price, as the €40m (£34m) differential is simply too significant to ignore in this era of intense FFP scrutiny, and with rumours that Hato is set to sign a new deal with Ajax, that price difference could become even more prominent.

Then is their age. The Rotterdamn-born prospect is still just 17 years old, and for as impressive and mature as he has looked so far this season, to expect him to come into the Premier League and instantly challenge for a spot in Arsenal's backline could be a recipe for disaster, especially if he moves with a massive price tag hanging over his head.

The "insane" Inacio, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, on the other hand, is 22 and has a few seasons of senior professional football under his belt already, which should make the transition to English football far easier.

Finally, when comparing the pair's underlying numbers, nothing jumps out as a justification for spending significantly more money on a less proven defender, and, if anything, it is the Sporting man who comes out looking slightly more impressive.

For example, he produces significantly more progressive passes and passes into the penalty area per 90 than his young competition, and while he makes fewer tackles per 90, he wins a greater percentage of them. On the surface, Inacio looks like one of the most composed centre-backs around, notably ranking in the top 1% of defenders in leagues similar to the Portuguese top-flight for passes completed per 90 minutes.

Ultimately, both players look destined for a great career at the very top of the game, but if Arsenal want to sign a defender who can have an instant impact on the team, they should be looking at Inacio, not Hato.

Farke must unleash "blistering" £34k-p/w Leeds ace alongside Bamford vs Cardiff

Leeds United return to action in the Championship this afternoon as they travel to Wales to take on Cardiff City in their 27th league match of the campaign.

The Whites were in FA Cup action last weekend as they faced Peterborough United away from Elland Road on Sunday and ran out 3-0 winners.

Daniel Farke's side secured a comfortable win thanks to two goals from Ethan Ampadu either side of a wondergoal from striker Patrick Bamford.

The English centre-forward could keep his position in the side for this clash with Cardiff after that stunning strike and the German head coach must unleash Georginio Rutter in the number ten position behind him, ahead of Joel Piroe.

Bamford's season in numbers

Bamford failed to find the back of the net in any of his first 16 appearances for Leeds this season, and did not provide a single assist for his teammates in that time.

In fact, the 30-year-old striker also missed a penalty in a crucial game against Stoke City away from home, minutes before the hosts scored the winning goal.

However, the former Middlesbrough star was handed his first Championship start of the campaign against Birmingham on New Year's Day and headed in his first goal of the season from Dan James' cross.

Bamford then chipped in with a goal of the season contender, as shown in the video above, and an assist in the 3-0 win over Peterborough last weekend and this means that he has three direct goal contributions in his last two appearances.

Rutter's season in numbers

Farke could now provide the English number nine with the service that he needs to continue that rich vein of form by bringing Rutter back into the team.

The French whiz was rested – as an unused substitute – against Peterborough and should come straight back into the XI to replace Piroe due to his superior creativity.

As you can see in the table above, Rutter has significantly outperformed the former Swansea marksman in a host of key creative metrics in the Championship this season.

In fact, the 21-year-old magician ranks within the top 1% of forwards in the division for shot-creating actions (4.53), Expected Assisted Goals (0.37), and assists (0.39) per 90. He also ranks within the top 1% for successful take-ons (2.74) and the top 3% for progressive passes (3.66) per 90.

These statistics show that the ex-Hoffenheim prospect has been one of the best, if not the best, playmakers in the league so far this season.

Leeds forward Georgino Rutter.

The £34k-per-week star, who was once lauded for his "blistering" pace by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has the quality to consistently unlock opposition defences to create high-quality chances for his teammates in front of goal.

This is why Farke must unleash him in the number ten position behind Bamford to provide the English striker with all the ammunition that he needs to continue his goalscoring form.

Forward on the verge of joining Tottenham with final negotiations today

Tottenham Hotspur are "on the verge" of a surprise signing as Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg breaks some transfer news this morning.

Postecoglou chasing early January deals

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou made clear last month that the north Londoners will attempt to seal their January business early, as the head coach wants to bed new recruits into the squad nice and quickly.

Indeed, Tottenham are linked with signing a centre-back, midfielder and forward this month, with Postecoglou recently saying he's "hopeful" of sealing new players soon after the winter window opens.

"Obviously if we can do business early it's great for us, not just because of losing [Cristian] Romero but there's a whole month there – why waste it?," said Postecoglou on Spurs' January transfer plans.

"If you can bring them in early, even if they don't play you can bed them into training and our style of football because it's not like we're going to sign somebody and they'll hit the ground running. Maybe they could.

"Whereas if you leave it towards the end of January, it's potentially not until mid to end of February when they get up to speed, depending where they're coming from, the league they're coming from. So there's a whole lot of moving parts. So yes, I'd love to do something early in the window but even me saying that puts a challenge on us – because other clubs know we want to do something early.

"You've got to play the game, we'll see what happens but I'm hopeful it will be much earlier than the end of the window before we bring someone in."

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin. Postecoglou's side, in their desperate search for a new centre-back, are thought to be making headway and want a deal done soon.

Tottenham are advancing in talks to sign Dragusin after agreeing personal terms (Fabrizio Romano), but according to Sky reporter Plettenberg, there has been quite an unexpected transfer development out of N17 just this morning.

Timo Werner "on the verge" of joining Tottenham

According to the journalist, RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner could be a Spurs player very soon.

It is believed Werner is "on the verge" of joining Tottenham on loan and "final negotiations" are taking place today.

The Germany international can play anywhere across the attacking midfield area and further forward. Werner has scored two goals in eight Bundesliga appearances this season.

European giants planning "big bid" to sign Man Utd midfielder Dan Gore

Manchester United could face a fight on their hands to keep hold of an exciting youngster after it emerged that a club are ready to make a significant offer for his services.

Man Utd's potential outgoings…

Despite all the talk being about potential incomings at any given club with the transfer window nearing, outgoings are also a crucially important facilitator in paving the way for exciting new arrivals. United are no different in that regard and could be set to offload a number of players in January, with the likes of Anthony Martial, Casemiro and Jadon Sancho all linked with exits.

One other man who could depart Old Trafford in mid-season is Tunisia international Hannibal Mejbri, who is believed to be attracting attention from the likes of Seville, Olympique Lyon and SC Freiburg over a prospective loan deal after it emerged he wouldn't be travelling to feature for his country at the African Cup of Nations, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Outcast Donny van de Beek has already signed on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt and will join the 2022 Europa League winners once the window opens for business on January 1st, demonstrating the Red Devils' intent to get spare parts out of the door at Old Trafford.

Now, Erik ten Hag could have a fight on his hands to keep a bright young star at the club after interest has come to light in his services.

Borussia Dortmund keen on Dan Gore

According to Football Insider, Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund are lining up a significant offer to sign Manchester United youngster Dan Gore in the near future.

The 19-year-old made his Premier League debut against Aston Villa on Boxing Day and has received 30 minutes of senior action in total under Ten Hag. He is someone who has been earmarked as a long-term target by the German giants, and should he be unavailable in January, Borussia Dortmund plan on making a "big bid" in the summer of 2024 for the England Under-20 international.

The Manchester Evening News has recently claimed that Preston North End are also keen to sign Gore once the window opens on a loan basis, presenting several options for the Manchester-born midfielder to continue his development.

Intriguingly, there is also information in the copy that indicates The SEG International agency, who represents Red Devils boss Ten Hag, are keen to recruit him as a client despite the Carrington youth product's entourage being his family.

Looking ahead, United have a decision on their hands when it comes to Gore, and they may want to keep hold of him, given his status as a promising homegrown talent.

Salah hopeful he’ll be fit for UCL final

Mohamed Salah is hopeful that he will be fit for Liverpool’s Champions League final clash against Real Madrid, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Salah injured in final win

The Reds enjoyed FA Cup glory on Saturday following a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea at Wembley, winning their second trophy of the season.

Salah didn’t even make it to half-time, though, limping off with a groin injury and immediately sparking concern surrounding his involvement in the Champions League final on May 28th.

However, a hopeful update has now emerged regarding the 29-year-old’s situation.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-32/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Pearce provides Salah injury update

Taking to Twitter on Saturday night a few hours after the FA Cup final, Pearce confirmed that Salah is confident of being fit for the Champions League showpiece against Real Madrid in Paris.

The journalist tweeted: ” ‘Of course, all good’ says Mo Salah when asked if he will be fit for the CL final in Paris.”

The Verdict: Wrap him in cotton wool

While there is no official confirmation surrounding the severity of Salah’s injury, that he believes he will be fit for the 28th is certainly an enormous positive.

Having gone off injured in the 2018 decider against the same opposition, it would be cruel for the 29-year-old to suffer Champions League final heartache yet again – more importantly, Liverpool need arguably their best player on the pitch.

Salah will do all he can to prove himself, although Jurgen Klopp should be wary of not letting his heart rule his head in the meantime, only starting the Egyptian if he is ready.

There is enough depth in the squad to make do without him from the start these days, which is a very different situation to four years ago. Therefore, Klopp must wrap the 29-year-old in cotton wool for the Premier League games against Southampton and Wolves this week.

In other news, Klopp has reportedly set his sights on one Liverpool signing. Read more here.

Spurs: Paratici now plotting Palhinha offer

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Joao Palhinha to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the word?

That’s according to a report by Portuguese publication Jornal de Noticias (via Sport Witness), who claim that, following earlier reports suggesting that Tottenham are at the front of the queue to land the Sporting Lisbon talent this summer, Fabio Paratici is now preparing an initial offer for the 26-year-old.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

The report goes on to state that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United are also interested in a move to bring the Portugal international to the Premier League, while the Liga Portugal side themselves are looking to receive a figure totalling €40m (£34m) in order to part with the defensive midfielder this summer.

A “special” signing

With it being reported that Antonio Conte has prioritised the signing of a new central midfielder in the summer transfer window, it is easy to see why Paratici is plotting an offer for Palhinha ahead of Tottenham’s 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, over his 26 Liga Portugal appearances this season, the £23.4m-rated talent has been in breathtaking form in the heart of Ruben Amorim’s midfield, making an average of 3.0 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 0.9 clearances and winning 7.1 duels – at a success rate of 61% – per game.

The £24k-per-week defensively-minded midfielder has also impressed in an attacking capacity, scoring three goals and creating one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.0 shots, making 0.4 key passes and completing 0.5 dribbles per fixture.

These returns have seen the 12-time capped international who Amorim dubbed a “special player” average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.11, ranking him as Sporting’s ninth-best performer in the top flight of Portuguese football.

As such, with the likes of Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele all looking likely to be moved on by Tottenham this summer, Palhinha would very much appear to be a fantastic replacement for any of the three outbound midfielders, leading us to believe that Paratici must do all he can to convince the 26-year-old of a move to north London ahead of a switch to Wolves or Manchester United this summer.

The Saudis agreed an initial £26 million deal for Felix, plus hefty add-ons, and Chelsea could even bank close to £43 million in future thanks to a sell-on clause.

Chelsea’s £87.5 million financial windfall from winning the CWC, not to mention Champions League revenue, also contributes to Maresca’s side being comfortably far away from breaching the PSR threshold.

While Chelsea remain keen to balance out their squad by selling more players, partly due to pressure from UEFA, there is scope for BlueCo to seal more squad upgrades in time for the 2025/2026 season.

Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea over a move to Stamford Bridge, and talks are at an advanced stage to sign the Dutchman, who could come in as both cover for Marc Cucurella and as another centre-back option.

Another Netherlands international could also join Hato in London pretty soon – RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.

The 22-year-old has been on fire for Leipzig since signing for the Bundesliga side on an initial loan in 2023/2024. His move was made permanent in January, with Simons bagging a total of around 21 goals and 23 assists in all competitions over the last two seasons.

Leipzig even made Simons the highest-paid player in their history on a contract worth around £192,000-per-week, but the attacker is already prepared to seek pastures new.

Interestingly, Jacobs reports for talkSPORT that Bayern Munich have called Simons “several” times in an attempt to convince the playmaker to join Vincent Kompany’s side, but he much prefers a move to the Premier League with personal terms agreed.

Leipzig are prepared to green-light Simons’ sale for around £61 million, but there is a belief within Chelsea that they could strike a deal for less.

Man United plotting bid for Jurrien Timber

Manchester United are expected to have a big summer transfer window following the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, and now one of the Dutch coach’s former players has been linked with joining the manager.

What’s the latest?

According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man United are plotting a move and are currently in talks for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Plettenberg tweeted: “Update Timber: FC Bayern inquired about him but it is said that the 20 y/o could join Ten Hag to MUFC!

“Talks with his management have taken place. Manchester United is seriously interested.”

It’s thought a deal could cost as much as £35m this summer.

Ten Hag would love him

There is no doubt that the Red Devils are in need of improving their squad and their defence has been an area that has been criticised this season, so if Ten Hag could bring in a player he knows can be effective in his style of play he would surely love to have him at the club.

The £27m-rated youngster who was hailed as “reliable” by Marco van Basten has had a great season with the Dutch coach winning the Eredivisie this season and has been giving glimpses of his outstanding defensive abilities.

According to SofaScore, Timber has won the majority of both his aerial and ground duels (67%), with an impressive 91% pass accuracy and making 2.4 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.4 clearances and an astonishing 90.8 touches on average per game, proving that he has been a real solid presence for Ajax in his 30 league appearances.

However, it is not just his defensive attributes that have made Ten Hag desperate for the centre-back to join him at Old Trafford as his effectiveness in attacking opportunities is a massive bonus too.

The 20-year-old who has been described as a “top talent” has scored three goals, contributed two assists, created one big chance and has been successful in 72% of his dribbles for the Dutch Champions.

With that being said, signing the young talent could be a major coup for Manchester United and Ten Hag this summer if they can secure a deal for Timber in the transfer window.

Considering he has played for the new manager already he could be an instant success in the North West.
