Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk on Delhi Capitals' release list

Mohit Sharma is also being released, while T Natarajan is being retained by Delhi Capitals

Jake Fraser-McGurk was brought back with the RTM card for IPL 2025•BCCI

Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to release their overseas opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk, along with former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma. After a lot of deliberation, the owners has decided to retain T Natarajan, a capped India pacer and yorker specialist who was signed for INR 10.75 crore at last year’s mega auction.Signed in 2024 for his base price of INR 2 crore, du Plessis, 41, had underwhelming returns in IPL 2025, hitting 202 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 123.92. These numbers were in stark contrast to his impact for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), for whom he made 438 runs in 15 innings at 161.62 as they rose from the bottom to the playoffs the previous season.Mohit too was below par, picking two wickets in eight games while going at 10.28.Fraser Mc-Gurk, however, will be the most high-profile release, considering hat the franchise had labelled him a player for the future when they signed him in 2024. His intent-laden batting that yielded 222 runs off just 81 deliveries were the highlight for DC during the fag end of their campaign that season. He was subsequently bought back via the right-to-match card ahead of IPL 2025, where he returned five single-digit scores in six matches. His overall tally of 55 runs included a best of 38 before he was benched.Having returned home when the IPL season was paused owing to cross-border tensions with Pakistan, Fraser-McGurk opted to stay back when the season resumed, with the franchise signing Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman as a temporary replacement. At the time, the IPL had stated temporary replacements would not be retained, which means Mustafizur, too, will need to go to the auction.Fraser-McGurk’s recent form has been poor across formats. He had a highest of 36 in three List A games against India A, and has managed scores of 34, 27 and 4 in the three list A games for South Australia since. Post the IPL, Fraser-McGurk also had a lukewarm Major League Cricket stint with San Francisco Unicorns.

Umesh and Pujara will feature in the second four-day game leading up to the first Test in Chottogram from December 14. KS Bharat, the back-up wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant in the main Test squad, will also link-up with the India A squad ahead of the second four-day fixture from December 6-9 in Sylhet. The first four-day match will be played in Cox’s Bazaar from November 29 to December 2.Elsewhere, there was a maiden India A call-up for Kerala’s Rohan Kunnummal, who has had a superb initiation in first-class cricket. This year alone, the 24-year-old has hit four centuries in nine first-class innings. The young and prolific pair of Yash Dhull and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also made the cut, alongside Baroda’s seam-bowling allrounder Atit Sheth, who picked up 13 wickets in three Ranji Trophy matches this year. Sheth has been around the domestic scene since 2015, but has come into his own over the last few years.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Like Kunnummal, Dhull, too, has had an impressive red-ball initiation, having already hit four first-class centuries in six matches. Dhull, India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning captain from 2022, has already hit hundreds on debut in the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy.Jaiswal has been equally prolific, becoming the joint-fastest Indian to 1000 first-class runs in September, getting to the mark in only 13 innings, equally-fastest with Amol Muzumdar and Rusi Modi. Earlier this year, he hit twin hundreds in the Ranji semi-final and backed that up with another century in the final against Madhya Pradesh. Overall, Jaiswal has five centuries and a half-century in seven first-class games at an impressive average of 84.58.The inclusion of Jaiswal and Dhull, both of whom open, meant there was no place for Priyank Panchal, the Gujarat opener, who had led India A during their previous assignment at home against New Zealand A in August-September.Tilak Varma, who gave a good assessment of himself in the first red-ball game against New Zealand A with a century, retains his place in the middle order alongside Sarfaraz Khan, another prolific run-getter in domestic cricket.Mukesh Kumar, who was the joint leading wicket-taker in the three games, also keeps his place, alongside Saurabh Kumar, the left-arm spinner. Saurabh will lead the spin-bowling unit with Jayant Yadav and Rahul Chahar, while Umesh (second game only), Navdeep Saini, Sheth and Mukesh will form the pace battery.India A squad for first four-day game: Abhimanyu Easwaran (capt), Rohan Kunnummal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan, Tilak Varma, Upendra Yadav (wk), Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Atit ShethIndia A squad for second four-day game: Abhimanyu Easwaran (capt), Rohan Kunnummal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan, Tilak Varma, Upendra Yadav (wk), Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Atit Sheth, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, KS Bharat (wk)

Plymouth now considering move to sign European midfielder for Rooney

da aviator aposta: Sat just one point clear of the Championship’s bottom three, Plymouth Argyle have reportedly turned their attention towards a midfield reinforcement which could help seal survival for Wayne Rooney’s side.

Plymouth transfer news

da wazamba: Whilst one point clear of the relegation zone isn’t too much cause for celebration, many doubted that Rooney would even get this far after Plymouth opened the campaign without a league win in their opening four games.

Turning a corner to pave the way for potential survival since then, however, Rooney is gradually earning the trust of the Pilgrims, who entered the international break off the back of victory over Portsmouth and a draw against Derby County.

Now, the international break has seemingly handed those at Home Park the opportunity to shift their focus towards potential reinforcements in 2025 in what would be a major boost for Rooney and his side.

The Pilgrims won’t be expected to spend big, but recent reports suggest that they’ve got at least one target in their sights when the January transfer window arrives. According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, via Sport Witness, Plymouth have finalised their scout report on Fredrik Hammar and a now considering a move to sign the Hammarby midfielder.

Just 23 years old, Hammar has been a mainstay in the Hammarby side throughout their current campaign, starting 15 of 29 league games and making 30 appearances in all competitions. A player who can play both central midfield and defensive midfield, Hammar could slot straight into Rooney’s side in place of Jordan Houghton or perhaps even Darko Gyabi when he returns to Leeds United at the end of the season.

Leeds midfielder Darko Gyabi.

Providing a defensive foundation in the middle of the park, Hammar would help to shield a backline which has conceded 26 goals in just 15 Championship games so far this season.

Hammar could earn Championship redemption

What is interesting to note is that if Hammar does complete a move to Plymouth in 2025, it will not be his first attempt to break into English football. The midfielder joined Brentford in 2019 but was forced to settle for a place in the B team before leaving back to Sweden and back to Akropolis IF just two years later.

Since that disappointment, however, the midfielder has found his feet back in his home country at Hammarby and could now receive the opportunity to earn redemption in the Championship.

Just how much the Swedish club demand for the 23-year-old remains to be seen, of course, but Plymouth will certainly be prepared to make their move if the price is right, having finalised their scout report.

All eyes will be on survival in the Championship this season and Hammar could more than play a part in achieving that if he completes a move at the beginning of next year.

Their clash with the Toffees is another must-win game for West Ham, amid calls for Lopetegui to be shown the door. Critics have claimed that West Ham should sack Lopetegui already and that his appointment was simply the wrong choice by David Sullivan.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve heard reports that there are a fair few people that are not convinced about Lopetegui,” said journalist Dean Jones on the Rank FC Ultras podcast last month.

“Honestly, I’d probably sack him (Lopetegui). I think they’ve got it wrong. I don’t think this is the right man for them. I think it’s a waste of time. I’d sack him.”

How the West Ham board are now really feeling about Lopetegui

There are suggestions that West Ham have sounded out ex-FC Porto boss Sergio Conceicao as an alternative, while former backroom member Edin Terzic is also a potential replacement for Lopetegui.

Amid these claims, a report by Football Insider has shared just how the West Ham board are now feeling about Lopetegui after a lacklustre start to the campaign.

It is believed that Hammers chiefs are growing very impatient, and there is now a feeling that they could relieve Lopetegui of his duties at any moment, as the situation becomes quite volatile.

Pressure is believed to be mounting even further, and as we’ve seen with Erik ten Hag recently, no manager is safe in this division if results continue to take a downward trajectory and players fail to perform.

The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas is another figure who thinks Lopetegui’s time should be up, urging technical director Tim Steidten to cut his losses on the tactician.

“I don’t think Lopetegui is capable of turning this around,” wrote Thomas on X.

“He was the wrong appointment. This team has regressed, has no identity, the players look despondent and the formation/tactics are questionable.

“Lopetegui wants fans to reserve judgement until May, but there is little encouragement that things will improve. He keeps persisting with out of form Rodriguez, Summerville brought off early again and another game with a different formation. I could go on all day.”

Opening partner Henry Hunt will resume on 9, the Redbacks surviving a testing 12-over spell with all 10 wickets in hand.”It’s going to be a grind tomorrow – an absolute grind,” Handscomb said. “It’s definitely flattened out. Day one was really hard and since then it’s gotten flatter and flatter.
