“I don’t know, we’ll see,” he said when asked about his future. “I’m enjoying it at the moment. I really can’t say how long I’ll play for, I’m not sure. Take it one tour at a time, enjoy it, enjoy training and trying to get better. Smith’s personal drive to improve has been evident in the last 12 months as he has re-engineered his technique back to an earlier model where he moves less in the crease. This century followed the double he made against West Indies in Perth, although it was not an entirely fluent affair and after 55 balls he had 12 runs.”It’s not going to be perfect every time,” he said. “So when you aren’t feeling as good as you’d like you just try to grind it out, get through that initial period then hopefully things get easier. I didn’t feel great my first 60-70 balls, I reckon, then things started to click and feel a lot better. Pleased I was able to get through that initial period.”Yet, even within the innings itself Smith was making adjustments, reverting to the jump across the crease when facing Marco Jansen’s reverse swing from around the wicket. “Went back to my old set-up, [or] my old, old set-up,” he joked.”I didn’t feel overly threatened on the outside of the bat,” he added. “I was getting back and across just to cover the ball coming back in at me. I’d rather do it out there…rather than come back in the sheds and wonder why I didn’t do that. Felt I could still get my weight back through the ball.”After a cheeky celebration involving a chainsaw aimed at Labuschagne, Smith was ready to reset himself but fell three balls later to a leading edge. Disappointment was writ large over his face which he later explained was the frustration at missing out on a chance to experiment with some more aggressive strokeplay with an eye on the India tour.”I just missed out on happy hour, was time to go playing some shots as Heady just did,” he said. “Was time to have some fun. I was actually going to start practicing a few things, potentially like sweeping and things like that, with our upcoming Indian tour. I know that sounds bad in a way, but felt like it was an opportunity to do that against some good spinners.”For Smith that tour represents one of the pinnacles to reach this year. How much more there is to follow for him, only time will tell.

“Really happy, we’re in the semi-final,” said Arteta on Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.
“The game started in a way that we certainly didn’t want to with a very simple goal and then our team had to react and I think we did in a great way, showed a lot of character, so much desire to turn things around. In the first half we lacked some threat, we created two or three big chances but didn’t score and with a few adjustments in the second half we got a grip of the game again and we looked a threat.
“If we don’t win, to win the next one is really important, to win it in a difficult situation, different context, they played with their starting eleven as well, they get that momentum going and we’re able to break it, over commit and win the game. Really pleased, it’s very helpful for Saturday.”
Left-back Kieran Tierney also made his first appearance for Arsenal since their Community Shield win over Man City in 2023, after recently being reintroduced to the senior matchday squad by Arteta.

The former Spain and Real Madrid boss did himself absolutely no favours with their 5-2 humiliation at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday, with all seven of those goals scored inside 45 minutes, equalling a Premier League record.
It was a frustrating night for Lopetegui, who was forced to watch on from the stands as his West Ham side failed to implement the very basics of defending at times.

Unsurprisingly, reports have since emerged linking the 58-year-old with his P45, as former Porto boss Conceicao becomes a serious contender to succeed Lopetegui.
West Ham reportedly sounded out Conceicao – who won an incredible 11 major trophies at the Primeira Liga side before departing in the summer – long before now, but multiple overnight reports from reliable media outlets like talkSPORT and The Guardian have put real weight behind the 50-year-old’s potential appointment.
Conceicao also took a lot of inspiration for his own style from Liverpool during the Jurgen Klopp era, lavishing praise on the Reds all the way back in 2019.
“Liverpool give me all what I like about football. In terms of their players and the way they play in the game,” said Conceicao (via The Telegraph).
“I like the Liverpool dynamics. I like the Liverpool game model. I like the way they play and the way they are with the ball – and also without it. It is similar to how I see football and in a lot of these moments in a game, they are the best team in the world.”
Conceicao, who won honours at Standard Liege in Belgium as well, is a very experienced tactician and boasts many seasons in the Champions League – which could be an enticing draw for supporters.
He is also currently a free agent, but he isn’t the only illustrious manager available right now, as West Ham also eye former Juventus and AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri.

According to The Guardian and Jacob Steinberg, Allegri is also contending to replace Lopetegui at West Ham.
The 57-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus, and his time in Serie A was certainly memorable. Allegri helped Juve to dominate Italian football for a period – winning five Scudettos in a row from 2014 to 2019 – with the Italian also guiding AC Milan to a title in 2011.
He won five Coppa Italia’s and three Italian super cups during his time in Italy as well, reaching two Champions League finals, and he was sacked by Juve just two days after guiding them to one of their Italian cup wins earlier this year.

وأكمل: “وصل العرض إلى 2 أو 2.5 مليون دولار، وكان عرضًا جيدًا لأنه جاء قبل ستة أشهر من نهاية عقدي، وظل مفوض نادي الاتفاق السعودي في مصر لمدة يومين أو ثلاثة، لكن لم يوافق أحد من الزمالك على مقابلته”.
وواصل: “لم أقم بالتوقيع مع الأهلي على عقود في يناير الماضي، وعلى مدار ثمانية أشهر، استمرت الإساءة لسمعتي، رغم أنني لم أتسبب في أي مشكلة معهم خلال 6 سنوات، وواجهت حملات ممنهجة ضدي وضد والدي، بادعاء أنه يطلب عمولات”.

Krish Reddy, the pre-eminent record-keeper of black and non-racial cricket in South Africa, has died. Reddy was involved in the game as a player, administrator, selector and historian, and was best-known for his dedication to collating and preserving the records of players who were otherwise unrecognised in segregated South Africa, and for telling their stories. Reddy succumbed to heart failure. He was 77.In 1999, Reddy published a book, , an anthology of black cricket in Natal. He also co-authored , a book published in 2002 on the struggles of cricketers of colour in KwaZulu-Natal. His numbers on Basil D’Oliveira in black cricket in South Africa were included in the appendix to Peter Oborne’s book, . He was also part of the panel of 100 players, writers, umpires, historians and other watchers of the game from around the world who selected Wisden’s five cricketers of the century.Reddy also served on the executive board of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Cricket Union, and worked as a selector in the region.KZN Cricket president, Yunus Bobat, paid tribute to Reddy, saying: “This is a great loss for KZN and a sad day for the South Africa cricket fraternity.
